Yunnan University International Students Admission Brochure for Master's or Doctoral Degree

I. Student Categories

Full-time students applying for self-supporting master's or doctoral degree.

II. Majors

All majors listed in the recruitment brochure for master's or doctoral degrees at Yunnan University are open to international students. 

III. Qualifications

1.Being of good character, obeying Chinese laws, observing Yunnan University's regulations, and respecting Chinese customs and public morals.

2.Health condition conforms with the "Health Examination Standards of Foreign Students" issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

3.Students who apply for master's or doctoral degrees need to meet the following requirements:

(1)A master's degree candidate should have been awarded a bachelor degree.

(2)A doctoral degree candidate should have been awarded a master's degree.

(3)HSK meets level 5.

IV. Application Methods

1. Application Procedure

(1) A Students who intend to study in China through exchange plans made by the two universities or other institutions of the two countries should apply according to the agreements.

(2) Students who stay in China or abroad and meet the qualification of application can apply on line

2. Application materials:

(1)Notarized Chinese or English degree certificate of the most advanced studies. Students who will graduate this year should provide "Study Certificate" given by their home universities and its Chinese or English notarization;

(2)A detailed proposal for your study or research at Yunnan University (no less than 800 words and written in Chinese or English);

(3)Two recommendation letters given by professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English);

(4)Copies of your published articles or papers;

(5)Copy of your HSK level certificate;

(6) Photocopy of a valid passport.

Notification:

(1) Students should hand in clear enough electronic scanned version of all the listed materials.

(2) Notarized translation must be provided if any of the documents listed above are not in Chinese or in English.

3.Application Time

Before the 20th June every year.

V. Admission

After a primary exam, School of International Education will deliver qualified application documents to Graduate School, who, together with other schools are responsible for examining candidates' application materials and will submit their intended admission list back to School of International Education. School of International Education will be responsible to issue the Admission Offer letter, Visa Application for Study in China (JW202Form).

VI. Registration

International students who are admitted need to apply for a Student Visa at the Chinese Embassy by presenting their passport,Admission Offer letter, Visa Application for Study in China(JW202Form). You can refer to "Admission Notice" for the registration time and requirements. Freshmen need to provide the above materials to the Section of International Students Service, School of International Education, Yunnan University during registration.

Students who are not able to complete registration due to any reason need to ask for leave at School of International Education in writing. If you did not register for over two weeks without any explanation, your admission qualification will be canceled.

VII. Accommodation

Accommodation will be arranged by Section of International Students Service, School of International Education, according to the registration result. The telephone number for consultation about accommodation is +86-871-65032026.

VIII. Educational System

A flexible educational system is adopted by Yunnan University. It is usually 2-4 years for master's degrees and no longer than 5 years. For doctoral degrees, it is usually 3-5 years and no longer than 6 years. Specific training programs will be made by Schools and authorized by the Graduate School of Yunnan University.

IX. Fee

1.Application Fee

The application fee is 600 yuan/person. It will not be returned to the students who have not met admission qualification or not been admitted.

2.Tuition Fee

Academic Master Degree: 8,000 yuan/person/year;

Professional Master Degree: 8,000-12,000 yuan/person/year;

Doctoral Degrees: 10,000 yuan/person/year.

International students should pay tuition according to the rules made by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Yunnan University. Tuition should be paid before the registration for each year and can also be paid together by the educational system.

3.Accommodation Fee

Room for two:2,700yuan/person/ semester;

Room for four:1,350yuan/person/ semester.

Accommodation fee will be charged by year at the beginning of the first semester of each year.

4.Insurance Fee

400 yuan/person/half year;

  800 yuan/person/year.

5.Residence Permit Fee

The residence permit fee is 400 yuan/person/year and paid according to China's regulations.

6.The fee for health certificate is 450 yuan/person/year.

X. Tutor system

A tutor system is adopted for international graduate education. Training plans will be discussed and made by supervisors together with international students according to their subject and major training programs and will be checked and filed by Schools. The training process is the same as that for Chinese graduate students, while it can be adjusted according to international students' characteristics: for example, the courses of politics and social practice can be exempted; A Brief Introduction to China and Public Chinese will be offered as foreign language courses.

XI. Degree

Full-time master's or doctoral degree candidates who have passed all the exams and thesis oral defense and met the degree requirements will be awarded graduation certificate and a degree certificate of the master's or doctoral degree.

XII. Other

1.TheOffice of International Students Service is responsible for the routine management of international students.2. All the fees related to applying for studying in China should be paid by the students themselves.
