Chengdu University, founded in 1978, is approved by the Ministry of Education as a full-time regular undergraduate institution, whose name can be traced back to the "National Chengdu University” established by Mr. Zhang Lan in 1926. This university is now run by the People's Municipal Government of Chengdu, and jointly administrated by both Sichuan provincial and Chengdu municipal authorities, with the latter as its supervisor.

    Facing the 4000 mu Qinglong Lake (266.8 hectares), the university is located on Chengluo Avenue in Shiling Scenic Area adjacent to the 500-year-old Ming Royal Tombs . The university covers an area of 2,700 mu (180 hectares) in total, with its building area of more than 400,000 square meters. The university is home to 12 colleges, an affiliated first-class comprehensive hospital at Grade 3 with a history of more than 100 years, and Sichuan Antibiotic Industrial Institute, one of the key national pharmaceutical research & development institutions.

    Currently the university has 57 Bachelor's degree programs spanning 9 categories, the first class master's degree in 5 disciplines, and the second class master's degree in 28 disciplines and specialties. With more than 21,000 full-time students, 2700 teaching staff, and over 30 high-level personnel, among whom are recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, provincial academic and technical leaders, and experts from the Provincial 1000-Talents Program,the university has been consecutively on the List for China’s Highly-cited Scholars, ranking the 117th and 118th of all the colleges and universities in China in 2014 and 2015 respectively, and the integral level of the teaching staff ranks the 401st nationwide. In the last five years, Chengdu University has undertaken about 200 research projects at both national and provincial levels and won 26 awards at provincial level. In 2014, the university won a Second-Class Prize of National Scientific and Technological Advancement. In 2015, one research project was included in the “National Library of Philosophy and Social Science Achievements”.
