Long Term Chinese Language Program

This program is designed to train the students' Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Classes are arranged to cater to many different skill levels, and students are divided into the different classes according to their current Chinese ability. A typical class has 15-25 students. The program commences each February and September. Classes are arranged five days a week, 20 to 26 hours per week in total.  Students who attend all the classes and pass the examinations will be awarded a Soochow University Certificate upon completion of the program. 

The program includes compulsory courses such as Comprehensive Chinese, Chinese Conversation, Chinese Listening & Comprehension, Chinese Reading, as well as selective courses such as Extensive Chinese Reading, Modern Chinese Phonetics, China Survey, Chinese movies, basic business Chinese.

Short Term Chinese Language Program

This program is designed to train the students’ Chinese language skill and enable students to learn Chinese culture at the same time. It is usually available for group of students from exchange universities or institutes, 1 to 2 months in duration. Usually we offer Chinese language classes in the morning and culture classes and site visits in the afternoon. The culture classes are presented in a lecture format that covers Chinese history, geography, economy, religion, education, agriculture, medicine, calligraphy, painting, social structure, traditional folk custom, traditional sports, etc. All the culture lectures are given in Chinese or English. Site visits may include factories, farms, business enterprises, markets, development zones and other places of historical interests. If required, trips to other cities are possibly arranged in the weekend or after the program.
