Education Levels
  GDOU is committed to outstanding higher learning at the levels of undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, continuing and international education. Its undergraduate education was rated as excellent by the Ministry of Education in 2007. The postgraduate education has been growing smoothly toward the level of doctorate qualification. And the University has been moving forward steadily to the level of research-oriented education.

Discipline Areas
  GDOU is a multidisciplinary university which highlights marine sciences and fisheries science, growing perceptibly in applied sciences. Its academic disciplines involve science, engineering, agriculture, humanities, economics, management, law, and education. Among these fields of study, there are three Provincial Key Academic Disciplines, three first-category disciplines authorized to include doctoral programs, and 5 first-category disciplines covering master’s degree programs. And there is a provincial base for humanities and social sciences.

Academic Programs
  Currently, GDOU offers 63 fulltime four-year undergraduate bachelor’s degree programs (academic majors or major concentrations), 18 three-year postgraduate academic master’s programs, 2 two-year postgraduate professional master’s programs, 39 fulltime three-year higher diploma programs (professional or academic), and around 50 continuing education programs (degree or diploma). Among the academic majors, there are 5 Distinctive Undergraduate Majors sponsored by the Ministry of Education, 5 Distinctive Undergraduate Majors sponsored by the Education Department of Guangdong Province, and 2 Prestigious Academic Majors of Guangdong Province.

Alumni
  In nearly 80 years of endeavor, GDOU has produced more than one hundred thousand highly specialized personnel characteristic of “dedication, diligence and entrepreneurship.” These alumni have constituted an important force in Guangdong’s economic and social development and elsewhere, particularly in the South China Sea research and development. The wide application and development of their research outcomes have convincingly contributed to the thriving prosperity of aquaculture in South China. Take for example Zhanjiang which boasts an annual saltwater cultured pearls yield accounting for two thirds of the national total, and an annual shrimp production accounting for one sixths.
