Master Degree Program (Offered in Chinese)


I. Program of Study, Program Length and Campus Location

 

 

CFAU offers students a wide variety of majors including International Law, International Relations, International Politics, Diplomacy, English Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (English, French, Japanese), World Economy.

Program Length: 3 Years (Full time)

 

Courses begin in September are only for degree programs. One academic year usually consists of two semesters. The Fall semester begins in September and ends in January. The Spring semester begins in March and ends in July. Lectures are assigned in accordance to the teaching plans each year. Upon the completion of studies, eligible students will be able to obtain the master’s degree.

Location: Classes taken during the freshman year are held at the Shahe Campus (new campus), while classes taken during the senior year are held at the Zhanlan Road Campus (old campus)

 

 

II. Entry Requirements, Deadlines and Application Process

 

i. Entry Requirements                                      

Students who wish to apply for admissions as a graduate at CFAU should possess undergraduate degrees in a relevant field and pass the Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK).

Students who took the HSK test before 2009 are required to pass level 7 or above. Students who took the HSK test after 2009 are required to pass level 5 or above. Alternatively, students who can demonstrate Chinese proficiency equivalent to an HSK Level 5 or above will also be considered for admission.

Entering Students must be in good health and under the age of 45.

iii. Application Process

 

1. Student can check the CFAU’s International Students Section website for more information. There, they can fill out the international student application form found under“Study in China Online Application (来华留学在线申请) ” before April 1st. Students must upload the electronic version of their documents according to the checklist found on the website. The ISS will examine and verify the documents that have been uploaded.

2. Upon completion of the online forms and document verification has occurred, students should print out and sign the “International Student Application Form” and the “Letter of Emergency Contact”.

 

3. Please physically mail the following documents to the CFAU International Students Section located in Zhanlan Road Campus:

(1) The “International Student Application Form”

(2) A Copy of the applicant’s passport

(3) The “Letter of Emergency Contact” signed by the emergency contact living in China (Notes: For students under 18, his/her parents or guardians must sign “The Power of Attorney”form which is available at the local Chinese embassy and his/her parents must appoint a relative or friend in Beijing as the student’s guardian.)

(4) A High School Diploma and a copy of the applicant’s most recent academic records

(5) Four standard passport-size photographs (front view with nothing covering the head)

(6) A Copy of the applicant’s HSK certificate

(7) Recommendation Letter provided by professors or associate professors

(8) A Personal statement of no more than 500 words (written in Chinese) explaining why the applicant wants to study in CFAU

(9) For applicants who are currently enrolled in another Chinese university, they should provide the following additional documents:

   a. The sealed transfer letter from the International Students Section of the university where they are currently enrolled.

   b. A copy of the applicant’s student visa or residence permit.

 

 

III. Entrance Examination

 

Date: Will be held at the end of May or the beginning of June

Location: Zhanlan Road Campus of CFAU

 

The Entrance Exam will consist of both a written examination and an interview

Content: Chinese (written examination) and the intended major (interview)

 

 

IV. Accommodation

Students may choose either live on-campus or off-campus.

 

 

i. For students who choose to live on-campus:

Freshman and Sophomore need to apply to reside at the Shahe campus; Junior need to apply to reside at the Zhanlan Road campus. There are no exceptions to the rules.

 

1. International Exchange Center (IEC) (Zhanlan Road Campus)

The IEC offers suite-style rooms. The center offers central heating and a 24 hour hot water supply. Rooms are equipped with an automatic fire alarm and sprinkler system. Each suite is equipped with air conditioning, cable TV (including CNN), a desk, a bookcase, and a telephone, etc.

Every floor has a public kitchen where the international students can cook. Students may contact the reception desk if they need help setting up the Internet, buying IP cards, sending fax, or doing laundry.

Please note that rooms in IEC cannot be booked in advance.

 

2.  Student Flat (Shahe Campus)

Shahe campus student flat offers a separated bathroom. Hot water is provided from 15:00-22:00 every day. Each room is equipped with air conditioner, TV cable desks, bookcase, wardrobe, single bed, internet cable, and a walk-in balcony.

Each floor is equipped with drinking water dispenser, fridge and washing machine. Note that telephone and beddings are not provided.

International student staying in Shahe student flat is subject to the regulation set by the student flat. For details of the regulation see CFAU Shahe campus International students’ safety regulations.

Note that Shahe campus student flat may accept bookings and reservations in advance. However, reservation on a particular room type can not be accepted at this time.

International students staying in the flat must abide by the same rules as the Chinese students. Please check The Provisional Administrative Regulations on Foreign Students of CFAU Shahe Campus.

Rooms will be reserved for students currently enrolled in CFAU. If students choose to stay off-campus, please inform the university in advance.

 

ii. For students living off-campus

Students are allowed to rent apartments off-campus or stay in hotels, but should remain cautious. According to Regulation of the Division of Exit-Entry Administration, within 24 hours of an address change, foreign visitors or residents should report to the local public security organization to fill out the Registration Form of Temporary Residence (does not apply to those who check into hotels). International students should submit a copy of the registration form of temporary accommodation to ISS. Students who violate this regulation will be warned and/or be fined a fee of 2000 RMB.

 

 

 

V. Living Expenses

i. There is a one time Application and Registration Fee of 600 RMB that needs to be paid at the time of submitting the application.

 

 

Applicants who physically mail documents are not advised to send cash, but should pay the fee when taking the entrance examination.

The application and registration fee is non-refundable.

 

ii. Tuition fee: 25,000 RMB/year

New students pay their tuition fees at the time of registration, while currently enrolled students pay at the end of the preceding academic year.

Students who wish to transfer to another institution or dropout shall be entitled to a refund of the tuition according to the following guidelines:

80% if he/she does so within the first two weeks of the semester;

60% if he/she does between week #2 and week #4 of the semester;

No refund will be issued for students who waited more than four weeks after the beginning of the semester to make their request.

 

iii. Insurance fee: 800 RMB/year

The insurance fee should be paid along with the tuition fee.

(According to the regulations of Chinese Ministry of Education, international students who study in China have to purchase Chinese domestic medical insurance. CFAU purchases medical insurance through Ping An Insurance Company of China for accidental injury and hospitalization of international students. Those who do not pay the insurance fee will not be registered.

 

iv. Accommodation Fee    

1. International Exchange Center (Zhanlan Road Campus)

Two-bed Room: 150 RMB per bed per day (as of the 2014 Spring semester)

Students are advised to apply early. Students may check in after being offered a room. The accommodation fee shall be paid on a monthly basis. The accommodation fee needs to be paid one week prior to start of the next month.

2. Student Flat (Shahe Campus)

TSingle room (14 square meters):80RMB per person per day

Double room type I (30 square meters): inner room (1 person) 80 RMB per person per day; outer room (1 person) 80 RMB per person per day

Double room type II (30 square meters): inner room (1 person) 60 RMB per person per day; outer room (2 persons) 50 RMB per person per day

Accommodation fee is paid upon checking in. Fees for next semester should be paid at the end of the previous semester in total amount. Note that accommodation fee cannot be refunded if students wish to move out before the end of the semester. Shahe campus is closed during summer and winter break and cannot offer student accommodation during this period.

Master Degree Program (Offered in English)

Courses begin in September. During the first year Students will attend lectures.  During the second year students will write a thesis. One academic year usually consists of two semesters. The Fall semester begins in September and ends in January. The Spring semester begins in March and ends in July. Lectures are assigned in accordance to the teaching plans each year. Upon the completion of studies, eligible students will be able to obtain the master’sdegree.

 

Location: Classes are held at the Zhanlan Road Campus(old campus)

 

 

II. Entry Requirements, Deadlines and Application Process

 

i. Entry Requirements                                      

 

Applicants must possess undergraduate degrees in relevant fields, excellent listening, speaking, reading, and writing of the English language.

 

Entering Students must be in good health and under the age of 45.

 

ii. Application Deadline: May 1st

1. Student can check the CFAU’s International Students Section website)for more information. There, they can fill out the international student application form found under “Study in China Online Application (来华留学在线申请)” before April 1st. a. The sealed transfer letter from the International Students Section of the university wherethey are currently enrolled.

 

b. A copy of the applicant’s student visa or residence permit.
