School of Electromechanical Engineering

The School of Electromechanical Engineering was established in 1958. Over its 50 years of academic progress, the School graduated more than 20,000 students. In 2007, the School was awarded the title 'Advanced Group of the National Education System' by the Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Education.
The Faulty comprises 7 departments: Electromechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Design, Automobile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Packing Engineering and Graphics and Digital Media Engineering, as well as an Electromechanical Engineering Laboratory Center.The School has 135 full-time teachers, 71.1 percent of whom are full and associate professors, including 21 doctoral supervisors and 86 master's tutors. The School has 2 'Pearl River Scholar', 1 member of the new century national 'Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand'talent project, 1 member of the 'Thousand, Hundred, Ten' talent project of Guangdong Province, 2 members of the Teaching Direction Committee of Ministry of Education of China, 5 teachers enjoying special government allowance, 3 provincial outstanding teachers, 1 provincial leading talent and 1 provincial innovation team.
The School currently has 1 station of Mechanical Engineering for postdoctoral research, 5 doctoral degree programs (Electromechanical Engineering, Machine Manufacturing and Its Automation, Machine Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Industrial Engineering), 5 master's degree programs (Electromechanical Engineering, Machine Manufacturing and Its Automation, Machine Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Industrial Engineering), 2 areas that can grant master's degrees in engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering) and 5 undergraduate programs, of which Machine Design & Manufacturing and Their Automation and Industrial Engineering are provincial name-brand specialties. Mechanical Engineering has been selected as a key participant in the Guangdong '211 project' and the School has the authority to award the title Professor of this subject. The School now boasts 4 provincial key disciplines, 1 key lab of the State Education Ministry, 1 provincial key lab and 2 key labs designated by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, 1 national-level teaching team, 1 national excellent course and 3 provincial excellent courses and 1 national characteristic specialty.
The School is well known for its strength in delivering quality application-oriented education and applied research of great relevance to the needs of the expanding economy of the province. Currently, it has established engineering research and development centers with many well known universities and enterprises both at home and abroad. School of Automation includes the Departments of Automation, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measuring and Control Engineering, Net Engineering, and Electronic and Information Science and Technology, and in addition a Laboratory Center.The School has 99 full-time teachers, of whom 15 are doctoral supervisors, 57 are master's tutors, 30 are professors and 42 are associate professors. The School has well know teachers on the national and provincial level, including 1 teacher who won the title of ministerial 'excellent talent of the new century', 1 teacher who obtained National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 national outstanding teacher, 4 provincial outstanding teacher and 3 teachers enjoying special government allowance. The teaching and research buildings of the School cover a total area of 12,000 square meters, with facilities and equipment worth approximately 39 million RMB.
At present, the School has 1 station for post-doctoral research, 5 doctoral degree program, 10 master's degree programs, 3 engineering master's degree programs and 4 bachelor's degree programs. The School has the authority to award the title Professor of Control Science and Technology. The discipline of automation has been selected as a key participant in the Guangdong '211 project'. The School now boasts 1 key lab designated by Ministry of Education of China, 1 key lab of Guangdong Province, 3 key labs designated by Guangdong Department of Education, 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 provincial key disciplines, 4 provincial key courses and 5 provincial excellent courses. Meanwhile, the School has established 18 workplaces based off the campus and works with 10 cooperative companies that invites our students for internships and visits for practical experience.
The School undertakes a number of national, ministerial, provincial and local research projects every year, the funding of which reaches to over 15 million RMB. In the past three years, the School has won 1 first prize for national natural science research, 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes for Guangdong provincial science and technology research, 1 first prize for Guangzhou science and technology research and 1 special prize for Dongguan science and technology research.
In the past three years, the School has undertaken 16 National Natural Science Fund Projects, 1 central special financial aid program and over 50 provincial and municipal R&D projects supported by provincial Natural Science Funds and other important sources. It has also developed enthusiastic cooperation and exchange activities with enterprises at home and abroad, in academics and research. A series of the School's research achievements have resulted in practical applications which have produced significant social and economic benefits. The School of Chemical Engineering and Light Industry has a history of over five decades. The School consists of 3 departments: Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Food and Biological Engineering, and in addition a laboratory center. The School has 5 undergraduate programs, 6 master's degree programs, 5 doctoral degree programs, 1 station of Chemical Engineering for postdoctoral research and 1 master's degree program on engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering has been selected as a key participant in the Guangdong '211 project'. The School has the authority to award the title Professor of Chemical Engineering. The School also has 1 provincial key discipline (Applied Chemistry), 1 key lab designated by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province (Clean Chemical Technology), 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center (Basic Chemistry and Chemical Engineering), and 1 national characteristic specialty (Chemical Engineering and Technology).
The School has some experts and teachers who enjoy a national or provincial reputation, including 12 members of the 'thousand, hundred, ten' talent project of Guangdong province, 2 teachers enjoying special government allowance, 1 national outstanding teacher and 4 provincial outstanding teachers. At present, the School has 3,490 students, including 3,244 undergraduate students, 350 master students and 36 doctoral graduate students.The School's commitment to undergraduate education and its reform has led to a host of scientific breakthroughs and honors, including 2 national excellent teaching awards and awards from both the state and the province for a dozen CAI courseware developments. The School has forged educational and research collaborations with companies and educational organizations, and has established workplace bases in several cities to provide opportunities for students to participate in real-world R&D projects. The School has developed unique strength in the areas of functional polymer materials, functional fine chemicals, petrochemical industry, and biomedicine.    The School of Information Engineering was established in April 2000. It consists of 5 teaching units, the Departments of Communication Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Surveying and Control Technology, and Applied Electronic Technology, as well as a laboratory center.
At present, the School boasts 5 master's programs, 2 master's degree programs in engineering and 4 undergraduate programs, in which Information Engineering and Surveying and Control Technology and Instrumentations are provincial name-brand specialties, and Surveying & Measuring Technology and Instrumentation is provincial key discipline. The School has 2 provincial demonstration centers and 4 provincial key labs. The laboratories cover a total area of 6522 square meters and have a total value of RMB 17.52 million.The School has a staff of 108 members, among whom 12 are professors and 24are associate professors. There are 2959 undergraduate students and 308 graduate students in the School.
   Since 2005, the School has undertaken 180 national, provincial and ministerial level R&D projects, with research funding over RMB 25.64 million. The School has published 671 academic papers, 16 monographs and textbooks, and has obtained 32 patents and has won first prize receiving the Provincial Excellent Teaching Award.The School is oriented toward all-round disciplinary development in gathering, processing, storage, transmission and comprehensive utilization of information. The School focuses on strengthening its curriculum by integrating within it the nurturing of attributes of all-round students, and is dedicated to delivering an application-oriented quality education to broaden students' outlook by equipping them with strong problem-solving abilities. The School of Civil and Transportation Engineering has a long history. From 1957 until now, the School has turned out over 10,000 talented construction engineers of various kinds. Many have become well-known scholars, entrepreneurs and social activists and made great contribution to the country's economy and society. The School comprises 8 departments, including Civil Engineering, Urban Utilities Engineering, Highway and Transportation, Engineering Management, Survey Engineering, together with the Institute of Rock and Soil Engineering, the Institute of Engineering Mechanic, and the Lab Center.
The School has 103 full-time teachers, of whom 20 are professors and 40 are associate professors. It now offers 8 bachelor's programs, 7 master's programs and 2 master's programs of engineering. The bachelor's programs include Civil Engineering, Project Management, Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering, Building Environment and Equipment Engineering, Communications and Transportation and Survey and Drawing Engineering. Master's programs include Rock and Soil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Municipal Engineering, Bridge and Tunnel Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Reduction Engineering and Protective Engineering, and Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Engineering. Rock and Soil Engineering is a provincial key discipline. Civil Engineering is national characteristic specialty and provincial name-brand specialty. The School also has a provincial research center for Civil Engineering Technology, a provincial experimental teaching demonstration center for Civil Engineering and a 'GDUT-HK POLYU Joint Research Center for High Performance Structures.
The School has 12 specialized laboratories. These are the Structural Engineering, Mechanical, Rock and Soil Engineering, Civil Engineering and Materials, Building Equipment Engineering, Water Supply and Sewerage Engineering, Hydromechanics, Architecture and Civil Engineering CAD, Engineering Survey, Communications and Transportation, and Road and Bridge Engineering Laboratories. The total laboratory area is about 8,996 square meters. The teaching aids and laboratory apparatus are worth about 25.82 million RMB. The School also has a library collection of over 33,000 volumes of various types of books and materials.

The School of Management of Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT) is located in the Longdong Campus. Sitting at the foot of the mountains and facing the lakes, the campus is blessed with a beautiful natural environment and clean air. With an area of more than 600 acres, Longdong campus has first-class educational, sports and living facilities, including a library and laboratories. There are about 2500 square meters of research and teaching laboratories. Total lab assets amount to RMB 8.365million, of which an investment of RMB 4.42 million has been made in recent years. After many years of development and support from the university, Longdong campus has been built into a beautiful and fascinating place for nurturing talents and pursuing teaching and research activities.
As one of the largest schools in GDUT, the School of Management consists of the Departments of Business Administration, Accounting, and Public Administration, in addition to the Lab Center, the MBA Program Office, and the Institute of System Engineering. The school is also home to the Guangdong Association of Technology Economics and Modern Management, the Guangdong Society of System Engineering, and the Guangzhou Association for Real Estate. The school now has been chosen as a Professor qualification accreditation organization in the discipline of management.
The school has a large pool of talented staff. Among the 149 full-time professional teachers, 20 are professors and 53 are associate professors. Three teachers have received awards as provincial outstanding teachers, and 2 have been named provincial outstanding young teachers. Six have been recognized as members of the 'thousand, hundred, ten' talent project of Guangdong province. Seventeen teachers are able to deliver bilingual courses.
The school has 1 doctoral degree program (Management Science and Engineering), 6 master's degree programs (Management Science and Engineering, Technology Economy and Management, Accounting, Enterprise Management, Land Resource Management and Tourism Management). In recent years, the School members actively participate in scientific research and have made a leap forward progress, exceeding the R & D fund expectation of our university in the last 8 years consecutively. More than 200 papers are published annually. In recent years, the school has initiated 20 National Natural Science Fund Projects and State Social Science Fund Projects and over 80 provincial and ministerial levels projects. Over RMB 6 million of research fund is introduced to the School each year. By doing horizontal research projects, we have established a number of joint production and research bases in the Pearl River Delta region, which providing a strong support for the teaching of undergraduate students practice session.
There is dynamic learning and teaching atmosphere in the school. A series of activities have been held frequently, including 'Students Entrepreneurship Cup Competition', 'Student Marketing Elite Contest', 'The Month of Students Science and Technology Activities', which focus on the undergraduate students with also professional teachers involved. The specialty of Computer Science and Technology was initiated in 1984, and the growth and development of this specialty led to the founding of the School of Computers in May, 2000.The School consists of the Departments of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, in addition to the Lab Center. The School has 6 key disciplinary research directions, namely, Services Computing, the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical System, Theories and Methods of Software Design, Information Counter measures and Information System Security, Chip Design and Embedded Systems and Smart Media Information Process.The School also has 15 scientific research teams.
At present, the School has 104 full-time teachers, including 18 professors and 34 associate professors, 4 doctoral supervisors and 35 master's tutors. The School also has 16members of the 'Thousand, Hundred, Ten' talent project of Guangdong province and 4 teachers enjoying special government allowance. Up till now, it has 3172 undergraduates and 1250 master's degree candidates.

The School has 11 well-equipped laboratories for teaching and research, including 1 key teaching lab of Guangdong Department of Education (Modern Computer Technology Lab), 1 provincial key training base of IT personnel and 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centre for Computer & Network. The laboratory area takes up more than 3500 square meters, with advanced facilities and equipment worth RMB 55.68 million.The School's research work achievement is outstanding. During the last five years, the School has undertaken 238 scientific research projects and obtained research funding amounting to over RMB 10 million. At the same time, the School teachers have published 686 theses and 11 monographs, won 20 prizes for national, provincial and municipal scientific and technological research and obtained over fifty inventive patents and computer software copyrights.
The School attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovative ability. In the past five years, the students of the School have won 28 prizes in various international and national competitions and 56 prizes in provincial competitions. The competitions include the International Scientific Computing Software-SCILAB Program Design Competition, ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest, the National Computer Simulation Competition and the 'Challenge Cup' National University Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Work Competition, etc.

The School of Materials and Energy consists of 6 departments: Metallic Materials Engineering, Materials Forming and Control Engineering, Polymer Materials and Engineering, Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, Microelectronics Engineering, New Energy Materials and Devices, together with a Teaching Laboratory Center. Currently, the School has 3550 undergraduate students, 241 master students and 21 doctoral students.
The School currently has one Post-doctoral Station for Material Science and Engineering, three doctoral degree programs, ten master's degree programs, three engineering master's programs, and six undergraduate programs, among which Materials Forming and Control Engineering is a national characteristic specialty as well as a provincial name-brand specialty. Materials Science and Engineering is a famous and key discipline with a long history in the university. It has been selected as a key participant in the Guangdong '211 project' and the School has the right to award the Professor title in the subject. Materials Science and Materials Processing Engineering are provincial key disciplines. The School has well-equipped laboratories, including a provincial key lab (Preparations & Application of Functional Materials Key Lab) which occupies over 10,000 square meters and has a value of RMB 120 million.
The School has an effective teaching and research team, including 108 full-time teachers, 28 professors, and 54 associate professors, of whom 21 are doctoral supervisors and 68 are master's tutors. The members of the School have undertaken a great number of key research projects. These projects have led to many important achievements with distinguishing features in the fields of nano-structural and amorphous materials, modern die & mold CAD/CAM/CAE, materials forming and control technology, functional thin-film materials, new energy and environmental materials, nonferrous metal and functional composites, polymer materials processing, and modifying and composites. Some of these achievements have been developed into practical technology.

School of Environmental Science and Engineering

The School of Environmental Science and Engineering was the earliest school in Guangdong Province which offered bachelor's degree program of Environmental Engineering. At present, the School has one doctoral degree program, two master's degree programs, one master's degree program in engineering and three undergraduate programs. The School now has one national characteristic specialty, one provincial name-brand specialty and 20 standard workplace bases out of the campus.
At present, the scientific research and technological exploitation carried out by the School mainly involves 4 areas: chemical pollution and its control, resource comprehensive utilization and clean production, waste disposal, and environmental microorganism studies. The School has the qualification for environmental assessment and is granted the qualification of providing clean production technology services. The School consists of 5 departments: the Departments of Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biological Engineering, the Laboratory Center, and a research institute of Environment and Resources.
The School has 64 teachers, of whom 24 are professors and 18 are associate professors and 1,354 undergraduates and 122 master's degree students. Currently, the School has 1 provincial key teaching lab of Guangdong Department of Education (Comprehensive Resources Utilization and Clean Production Lab) and 1 Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre for Environmental Engineering. The total area of laboratories for teaching and research take up 7,000 square meters, with equipment of total worth of RMB 60 million, including 1361 sets of instrument and equipment.
In the past three years, the School has undertaken over 220 national and provincial scientific and technological projects and 3 teaching reform projects, and obtained annual research funding of over RMB 10 million. Ten inventive patents have been awarded. The School teachers have published over 250 scientific research theses, 36 teaching research theses and 3 textbooks. One first prize of national science and technology advanced award and six prizes of provincial science and technology advanced award have been received. There are 26 students who have won prizes in various college students' scientific and technological competitions.
