Tianjin is one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government in China. Located in the north-east of North China, it is 130 kilometers from Beijing. Tianjin has a population of over 15 million. Now, it has become a large business city with its port ranking the fifth globally in terms of handling capacity. Tianjin University of Technology (TUT) was founded by Tianjin Government in 1979. TUT is an engineering-based multi-discipline university, with disciplines in engineering, science, humanities, management, art, and so on. The total area of TUT’s campus is around 1,594,200 square meters. Through the construction and development for 39 years, there are 26,522 full-time students, including undergraduates and graduates. TUT’s well-developed education system—consisting of programs for undergraduates, masters, and doctors—marks a historic leap for the university. At present in TUT, there are 17 colleges, with 64 undergraduate majors, 19 primary discipline master programs, 3 primary discipline doctoral programs, 2 postdoctoral programs and 12 key disciplines of Tianjin. Over the years, our university attaches great importance to international cooperation. Up to now, TUT has established friendly cooperative relationships with 118 colleges and universities from 31 countries or regions in the world. It has initiated 2 joint education programs for master degrees and 4 joint education programs for bachelor degrees with universities from Canada and Japan. TUT has also established three Confucius Institutes in cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland, Mumbai University in India and Boigny University in Cote d’Ivoire respectively as well as one Confucius Classroom with Vistula University in Poland.Student credit transfer programs also provide world-class educational opportunities for TUT students. The International Admissions Office at International Relations Office is established especially for recruiting international students who want to study abroad in China for TUT, offering programs in intensive Chinese language study (long-term, short-term, summer, winter courses) and degree programs in various fields of language, science, engineering, management, literature, art and law.. Apart from the courses for the Chinese language programs and degree programs, international students may also choose to take elective courses, such as Kung Fu / Wu Shu (Chinese martial arts),Chinese cooking, Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese musical instrument playing, Chinese folk arts (paper cutting, carving), Beijing opera, etc., and take rewarding tours throughout China to experience the unique Chinese culture. So far, international students from more than 40 countries have come to study at TUT and we have productive cooperation with universities and educational institutions in many countries.
