Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology is located in the world famous scenic city and the famous historical and cultural city of Guilin. It is the foundation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Guangxi, the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau and Guangxi University, and the National Midwest University Foundation. The capacity building project was selected into universities and universities in Guangxi.

The school was founded in 1960. In 1980, it was approved by the State Council to establish the Guilin Institute of Electronics Industry. In 2006, it was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology. The school has successively belonged to the Fourth Ministry of Machinery Industry, the Ministry of Electronics Industry, the Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry, the China Electronics Industry Corporation, and the Ministry of Information Industry.
