I. Introduction to Chinese Government Scholarship
In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Now, 279 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Legal Studies, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy, and Fine Arts for scholarship recipients at all levels.
II. Chinese Government Scholarship Programs undertaken by Yangzhou University (YZU)
1.Bilateral Program
The Chinese embassies/consulates publish scholarship programs and decides the nominated candidates.
Applicants can contact the local Chinese embassy/consulate for application requirements and materials.

2.Yangzhou University Program
CSC publishes scholarship programs and YZU decides the nominated candidates in accordance with relevant regulations stipulated by CSC.
If applicants are interested in earning bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees at YZU through this program, please choose YZU (institutional code: 11117) on the application form. More details on academic programs for international students at YZU can be viewed at /col/col41098/index.html
Applicants shall send all application materials to College for Overseas Education at YZU (Address: Room 807, Teaching Building, 88 South University Avenue, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, P.R. China).
3.Special Scholarship Program
In response to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, MOE has established special scholarship programs with an annual quota including Belt and Road Scholarship, US Program, EU Program and China-Africa 20+20 Program, in order to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and America, between China and EU members, as well as further China-Africa 20+20 Cooperation Plan. These programs sponsor outstanding international students from relevant countries to undertake academic studies or research in Chinese universities. For the purpose of cultivating qualified Chinese language teachers and facilitating the promotion of Chinese language and culture, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) launches “Confucius Institute Scholarship” (CIS) to support outstanding students, scholars and currently employed Chinese language teachers recommended by Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms as well as some HSK test centers (hereinafter collectively referred to as “recommending institutions”) to study at Yangzhou university(YZU).
For the year of 2019, YZU has been authorized to recruit scholarship students who are willing to study at YZU for non-degree training program, Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL), Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) and Doctor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (DTCSOL). ELIGIBILITY
All applicants shall be:
a) non-Chinese citizens;
b) in good physical and mental condition, with good academic performance and conduct;
c) committed to the teaching and international promotion of the Chinese language;
d) between the ages of 16 and 35 as of September 1st, 2019. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.

SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS
A. Scholarship for Doctor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (DTCSOL)
The program commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum four academic years. Applicants shall hold a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as A Foreign Language, Linguistics, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages or education-related majors. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 200 on the HSK Test (Level 6), 60 on the HSKK test (Advanced Level) and more than 2 years’ work experience in Chinese language teaching and related fields.
B. Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)
The program commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.
C. Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL)
The program commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall hold a high school diploma and a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
D. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study
The program commences in September 2019, and provides scholarship for a maximum of 11 months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.
i. TCSOL
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.
ii. Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, and Chinese Philosophy
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level).
iii. Chinese Language Study
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3).
E. Scholarship for One-Semester Study
The program commences either in September 2019 or March 2020, and provides scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
i. TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Chinese Philosophy
Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required
ii. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture
An HSK test score is required.
F. Scholarship for Four-Week Study
The program commences either in July or December 2019, and provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.
i. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taiji Culture
An HSK test score is required.
ii. Chinese Language plus Home-Stay Experience in a Chinese Family
An HSK test score is required. The program is organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group. Prior to the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made in consultation with host institutions and such plan shall be submitted to Hanban for approval.
iii. Special Four-week Program for Confucius Institutes
An HSK test score is required. The program is organized and applied for by a Confucius Institute with 10-15 participants per group.
I. Scholarship Category
1. YZU International Scholarship for Preparatory Students
1) Eligibility
All applicants shall be
a) Applying for a Chinese-taught undergraduate program at Yangzhou University at the same time
b) Between the ages of 18-25 on September 1st, 2019
c) Not beneficiaries of any other scholarships
2) Coverage and Criteria
Yangzhou University Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee and applicants shall pay for other fees.
3) Period
1 year
4) Others: After one-year Chinese language learning, students shall obtain a HSK test report (Level 4 or above). Those who fail to pass the HSK test (Level 4) will not start professional learning until they obtain a test report. They shall pay for the relevant fees.
Please note: you apply for the scholarship simultaneously when applying for the Chinese-taught undergraduate program. If you are not admitted by Yangzhou University, the scholarship application will be automatically ended.
2. YZU International Scholarship for Undergraduate Students
1) Eligibility
All applicants shall be
a) Applying for an undergraduate program at Yangzhou University at the same time
b) Between the ages of 18-25 on September 1st, 2019
c) Not beneficiaries of any other scholarships
2) Coverage and Criteria
Yangzhou University Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee and accommodation fee. Applicants shall pay for other fees.
3) Period
Limited to 4 years or 5 years of studies
Please note: you apply for the scholarship simultaneously when applying for the undergraduate program. If you are not admitted by Yangzhou University, the scholarship application will be automatically ended.
3. YZU International Scholarship for Master Students
1) Eligibility
All applicants shall be
a) Applying for a master program at Yangzhou University at the same time
b) Between the ages of 18-35 on September 1st, 2019
c) Not beneficiaries of any other scholarships
2) Coverage and Criteria
Yangzhou University Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee and living allowance of 1500 CNY per person/month (10 months/year).
3) Period
Limited to 1 year of Chinese language learning and 2 years or 3 years of professional learning
Please note: you apply for the scholarship simultaneously when applying for the master program. If you are not admitted by Yangzhou University, the scholarship application will be automatically ended.
4. YZU International Scholarship for PhD Students
1) Eligibility
All applicants shall be
a) Applying for a Doctoral program at Yangzhou University at the same time
b) Between the ages of 18-45 on September 1st, 2019
c) Not beneficiaries of any other scholarships
2)Coverage and Criteria
Yangzhou University Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee and living allowance of 2500 CNY per person/month (10 months/year).
3) Period
Limited to 1 year of Chinese language learning and 4 years of professional learning (can apply for extension for at most 1 year)
Please note: you apply for the scholarship simultaneously when applying for the doctoral program. If you are not admitted by Yangzhou University, the scholarship application will be automatically ended.
February 1st, 2019 to June 15th, 2019
III. Admission Result
Before August 15th, YZU mails Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202) and scholarship certificate to admitted students. There is no further notice if you are not admitted.
IV. Annual Review
The annual review will be held in May and the result will be released in June. For those who fail the review, scholarship will be suspended or even cancelled. Academic performance, learning attitude, attendance, behavior, rewards and punishment will be reviewed.
1. For preparatory and undergraduate students, YZU mainly checks attendance and academic performance and puts forward comprehensive reviews based on college comments, rewards and punishment.
Attendance≥95%, average score≥70, tuition and accommodation fees are waived for the next academic year;
Attendance≥95%, average score≥60, tuition fee are waived for the next academic year;
Attendance < 95% or average score < 60, scholarship will be suspended.
2. For graduate students, YZU mainly checks academic performance and supervisors’ comments and puts forward comprehensive reviews based on scientific achievements, rewards and punishment. For those who fail the annual review, scholarship will be suspended.
3. Students who face scholarship suspension will be deprived of scholarship but can continue studies at their own expense. They can apply for the next round of annual review. If they pass the review, their scholarship will be resumed from the next academic year.
4. Students’ scholarship will be cancelled if any of the followings occurs, and their scholarship will no longer be resumed. Violating the Chinese laws and regulations, attending illegal organizations or activities, facing punishment, and other illegal behaviors, scholarship will be cancelled immediately. Failing to take part in the annual scholarship review without justifiable reasons or failing the review for two times in total, scholarship will be cancelled from the next academic year.
V. Give-up and Reserve
1. Scholarship students, who cannot register on time due to personal reasons, can apply for extension for at most one month. Those who fail to register on time will be considered giving up scholarship.
2. Scholarship can be reserved for one year for scholarship students who face schooling suspension due to sickness. Students should pay for their own travel expenses. Living allowance will not be provided during schooling suspension. Scholarship cannot be reserved during schooling suspension due to other reasons.
