Introduction

History


      Founded in 1907, Fujian Normal University (FNU) is an accredited university with a century-long history and unique traditions. As one of the oldest normal universities (teacher’s colleges) in China, FNU currently enrolls over 30,000 students, including nearly 1,000 overseas students from more than 30 countries and regions.


Facilities


      The library has a collection of over 3,000,000 books, a large amount of e-books and rare books, as well as more than 7,000 computers. The campus wifi network covers the whole campus.


      There are different types of dormitories, including as single rooms, double rooms and suites. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning a TV, a telephone, a water heater, toilet and internet interface. Residents of the dorms also have access to a restaurant on the first floor of the building, a public kitchen and laundry room. The dorm is adjacent to the city center and the surrounding area is quite developed.


      The campus contains a number of sports facilities, including a track field, stadium, badminton halls and a gym.


Education


      The university currently offers 76 bachelor programs, nearly 200 master programs and over 100 doctoral programs. These programs enable FNU to set up a full-fledged multi-disciplinary educational system. Students may choose from a variety of specialties, including but not limited to literature, history, philosophy, science, engineering, education, economics, law, management, agriculture and art.


      As a base for overseas students’ education and a China-ASEAN Education Training Center, FNU is authorized to admit students on three special scholarships: the Chinese Government Scholarship, the Confucius Institute Scholarship and the Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship.


      FNU began to enroll foreign students in 1984. Since then, it has enrolled nearly 4,000 students from over 30 countries and regions, such as Japan, Korea, the United States, Britain, France, and other countries in Southeast Asia. FNU has also trained a number of Chinese teachers in neighboring Southeast Asian countries . FNU, a registered HSK test center, provides foreign students with undergraduate training in Chinese Language . FNU also offers foreign students the opportunity to complete a postgraduate degree in Teaching Chinese as a second language. The use of multi-media in the classroom and full Chinese immersion are distinctive to FNU and effectively promote students’ Chinese communication skills. Currently, almost 1,000 overseas students from more than 30 countries and regions are enrolled. In addition, the University has co-founded two Confucius Institutes with the Angeles University Foundation of the Philippines and Alazhar University of Indonesia, as well as one Confucius Classroom with Boston Renaissance Charter Public School.
