Brief Introduction about Preponderant Discipline

1.Mechanical Engineering

The subject was founded in 1952 and now there are 5 undergraduate majors. In 1983, the subject began to recruit master graduate students. In 2003, it cooperated with Changchun Institute of Optics to train doctoral students. In 2006, it became a first-level master degree subject. The mechanical engineering subject is a key subsidy subject at the provincial level. In 2009, it was listed as a discipline for the establishment of doctoral awards. In 2013, the mechanical engineering subject obtained doctorate-accredited system which has a right to grant a doctoral degree.

There are 101 teachers, 15 professors and 35 associate professors in this discipline. The discipline aims at the academic frontier, relying on pillar industries such as automobiles, passenger cars, metallurgy, petrochemicals, and precision manufacturing, focusing on the application of basic technologies and technology research and development in green manufacturing, digital manufacturing, and precision manufacturing. The discipline has formed distinctive research features and advantages and made important contributions to local economic development.

2.Materials Science and Engineering

Materials science and engineering, a first-level subject, was founded in 1952 and now there are both doctor (2013) and master (2006) degree points of the subject. In this subject, 69 team members, 29 professors, 16 doctoral supervisors, 58 master's supervisors and 84% members having the doctor degree, the proportion of young and middle-aged teachers under the age of 45 is 58%, the teachers have overseas study and visiting experience accounted for 37%. The teachers in the subject are funded by 87 research projects from National Nature Science foundation of China, Ministry of education and Provincial Science and Technology Department. They also published about 200 research papers in SCI and EI journals and won 15 provincial-level scientific and technological progress awards. Several research directions with distinguish features and comparative advantages are formed form the fields of material property and interface chemistry, material toughening and surface modification, advanced manufacturing and processing of materials and the preparation and modification of polymer materials.

3.Chemical Engineering and Technology

Chemical engineering and technology, a first-level subject, was founded in 1960 and now there are both doctor (2013) and master (2006) degree points of the subject. In this subject, there are 3 excellent teaching teams of Jilin province, 36 team members, 8 professors, 5 doctoral supervisors, 27 master's supervisors and 85% members having the doctor degree. The teachers in the subject are funded by 42 research projects from National Nature Science foundation of China, Ministry of education and Provincial Science and Technology Department. They also published about 200 research papers in SCI and EI journals and 8 academic monographs, and won 12 provincial-level scientific and technological progress awards. Several research directions with distinguish features and comparative advantages are formed form the fields of fine chemical engineering, multiphase catalyst reaction engineering, functional materials preparation and technology, biomass utilization and biorefinery engineering.

4. Statistics

Undergraduate program of statistics subject in Changchun university of technology was founded in 2005. Our university has commenced with the first-level master's degree subject of statistics since 2011. In 2018, the subject began to recruit Ph.D. students of statistics (the only one which has the statistics Ph.D. program in Jilin local universities) and Applied Statistics professional master's degree. Basing on the requirement of local economy, for the purpose of revitalizing industry of northeast China, a characteristic system of theory and applications majoring high frequency data statistics, biostatistics, probabilistic graphical models and causual inference, big data analytics and so on, has been established in our institution. We focus on researching statistical interdisciplinary approach of different fields such as economy and finance, energy and environment, traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese materia medica, clinical medicine, electronic commerce and so on. And we've also made some developments for theory and applications of machine learning with big data, modeling and statistical analysis on big data, and the efficient intelligent clustering or classification.

In our graduate school, there is a member of Teaching steering committee in education ministry of higher education. A chair professor of us has joined Changbai scholar program, two members of Teaching steering committee of provincial education department, besides, we have 6 doctoral supervisors. Among our staff, there are 5 permanent members of national academic associations such as Chinese field statistics research association, and 4 vice chairmen of field statistics research association of Jilin province, 3 provincial teaching celebrities. Besides, 2 members of us get provincial academic award of invention with top-level, 3 of us get provincial academic award  called “spring seedling talents”. We also have a provincial master teacher who has joined an academic program for new century excellent talents in university, a subeditor of CSDA, and an editor of JPS.

In recent five years, our staff have finished 23 national academic projects in sum, that among those are 22 NSFC programs, 32 provincial or ministerial projects, and our staff have totally gained research funds 7.1545 million yuan. We have gotten 2 provincial awards of improvement of science and technology in level 3, 2 provincial awards of scientific achievements in level 2. Till now, the number of published papers of our staff is 162, that 89 of those are SCI indexed, 2 of them are SSCI indexed, and members of us have published 2 monographs. Now we hold a national creative group and a provincial creative group for higher school, and statistics of our institution is the support of mathematics, which is a provincial essential discipline of our university. Meanwhile we have applied for the Teaching Studio in Jilin Province in 2018.

5.Chemistry

The discipline of Chemistry was the first empowered subject in Changchun University of Technology to grant academic master degree. In 1996, the subject began to recruit master graduate students in applied chemistry. It was entitled to the right of master degree-conferring in organic chemistry in 2003, in polymer chemistry and physics in 2006, and in chemistry as first-level discipline in 2011. The discipline of Chemistry was awarded the advanced characteristic discipline of Jilin Province during the 12th Five-Year Plan.

The subject has a high standardized academic team with eligibly structured distribution in knowledge, education background, age and professional title. More than 90% of faculty possess a doctoral degree. The academic pacesetters and mainstays with high academic attainments have harvested fruitful achievements.

The subject focuses on the cultivation of postgraduate students’ operational and creative abilities. The students are expected to lay solid foundation on basic theoretical knowledge, experimental skills and the ability to independently conduct scientific research.
