University Overview

China Medical University is located in Shenyang, Liaoning province. It was the first medical school established by the Chinese Communist Party. It was the only school that had finished the entire 12,500 kilometerLong Marchwhile persisted in running the school. It was also one of the earliest schools that delivered college education of western medicine in China.The predecessor of the university was the Military Medical School of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. It was founded in October of 1931with the approval of The Central Military Commission in Ruijin of Jiangxi province which was the birthplace of the Provisional Central Government of the Soviet Republic of China.

China Medical University has fostered and educated more than 90 thousand senior medical professionals since its founding. Its graduates are all over China and many other countries and regions, many of whom have become senior leaders in national health management and famous medical experts. At present, CMU is authorized to grant doctoral degrees in 6 primary disciplines, which are Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Biology, Stomatology, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and Nursing. It also has five national key academic disciplines and one national key academic discipline in cultivation, 40 national key clinical specialty construction projects of National Health and Family Planning Commission, 6 first class distinctive disciplines of universities and colleges in Liaoning, 7 mobile post doctoral stations and 21 undergraduate specialties.

The school actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation. In cooperation with Queen's University of Belfast in the United Kingdom, it has established China Medical University-The Queen’s University of Belfast Joint College. Alongside 90 universities and regions  in the United States, Britain, France, Japan, Russia, Korea, Canada, Australia, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Korea, Finland, Macao and Taiwan, academic and scientific research institutes have established good communication relations, and have carried out fruitful cooperation with the World Bank Group (WBG), the China Medical Board (CMB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other institutions. Forty-eight internationally renowned experts and scholars have been employed as honorary titles of the school. In recent years, 82 important international cooperation projects and 37 CMB projects have been carried out.

International  Students  Education in CMU

CMU has a long history of strong teaching and scientific research, and many talented people. With the support of the abundant teaching management resources and the strong support of the leading group, the international student’s education in our university has made great progress and achieved great achievements after 42 years of hard work.

CMU is one of the first institutions of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit international students. It is also one of the earliest medical schools qualified to conduct all-English medical education as prescribed by the Ministry of Education. In 1976, the school began to recruit Chinese government scholarship foreign students; in 1987, it began to recruit graduate students; in 2005, it began to recruit undergraduate students in clinical medicine taught fully in English; in 2016, it began to recruit medical postgraduates taught fully in English.

Currently, the number of international students in our school has grown to 1238, mainly from 69 countries such as India, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States, Iran and so on, with a cumulative number of 87 countries of origin. So far, our school has trained more than 800 international graduates, including 170 international graduate students. They are playing a mission to protect human health in medical care in different corners of the world, which is also a strong motivation to encourage our school to continue to carry out education to study in China.
