About SWPU

    Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU) was founded in 1958 as the second higher educational petroleum institution in China. Located in Sichuan Province, Southwest China, SWPU comprises two campuses, with the main campus in Chengdu and the original one in Nanchong. It has a total floor space of over 800,000 square meters.

Prizes and Researches

    SWPU has won more than 360 prizes at the ministerial and provincial level, including the National Prize for Science and Technology Development, the First Prize for Science and Technology Development and the second prize for Science and Technology Development and Invention. In 2014, SWPU has been granted with a scientific research fund of 430 million RMB. Since the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, SWPU has made great achievements in academic and scientific research, with 13,054 papers and 267 specialized works published and 943 patents issued. The university owns a National Science Park which also serves as the National College Students Technology Entrepreneurship Training Base, Postdoctoral Innovation Base in Sichuan Province.

    Laboratory

    SWPU boasts of 79 research  centers and laboratories at various levels, including 1 State Kay Laboratory (Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology Exploitation Engineering),  3 National Engineering Laboratories (Co-established), 2 Strategy Alliances for Industrial Technology Innovation, one University National Science Park, one National Technology Transfer Demonstration Agency, two International Cooperation Laboratories, 25 Provincial Key Laboratories (Engineering Research Centers), 2 Provincial Experimental Research bases, 37 Horizontal Cooperation Scientific Research Center and 5 University Level Research Centers. It has founded the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Youth,   Foundation for Excellent youth and natural science and carried out the National Key S&T Special Projects and 2069 projects at the ministerial and provincial level.

    International Cooperation

    SWPU has always laid great stress on the international cooperation and exchange. Up to now, it has launched various internationally joint programs with higher educational institutions or companies from different countries, including Americ- a, Russia, England, Germa- ny, Japan, France, Canada, United Arab Emirates,etc.

International Education

    Since 2011, SWPU has enrolled international students from Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, India and Nigeria studying in key disciplines such as Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.etc.

International Students’ Apartment

    Southwest Petroleum University offers two-bedroom apartments for international students. In the bedroom, there are bookcase, desk, wardrobe, air conditioner, free TV and WiFi. Each apartment has one kitchen and bathroom with hot water, heater, refrigerator, gas stove and automatic washing machine.

Sichuan—“Land of Abundance”

    Sichuan, the “Land of Abundance”, is known to the world for being home to the Giant Panda. Chengdu Giant Panda Research Base, located in Chengdu, Capital City of Sichuan, is one of the most important captive conservation centers for the Giant Panda in the world.

    There are many famous scenic spots and historical sites in Sichuan Province, such as: Jiu-Zhai-Gou Scenic Area, Huang-Long Valley (Yellow Dragon Valley), Mountain E-Mei, Mountain Qing-Cheng, Le-Shan Giant Buddha, Du-Jiang-Yan Irrigation Project, San-Xing-Dui Relics.

    Sichuan is also well-known for its delicious food. Sichuan Cuisine is one of the Eight Great Cuisines in China. Characterized by spicy and pungent flavors, Sichuan Cuisine, with myriad of tastes, emphasizes the use of chili, red hot peppers and garlic. Sichuan food is known for being “spicy” hot! It is said that one who does not experience Sichuan food has never reached Sichuan. Typical menu items are: Hot Pot, Smoked Duck, Kung-Pao Chicken, Twice Cooked Pork and Mapo Dofu.
