CHINESE LANGUAGE PROGRAMS

1 General Chinese Language Program

Term Begins:

Late February (spring semester); Early September (autumn semester)

Class Hour:

Monday-Friday 8:30AM-12:00PM, 18 weeks one semester, 20 class hours one week, 45min per class hour

 

Program Features:

Small-sized classes, about 20 students per class, mixture of international students

Courses: Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Listening, Extensive Reading, Writing, etc.

Levels: Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced

Placement test in the beginning; Certificate & transcript upon completion

Providing after-class tutorials

Various elective courses

A wide variety of activities

Application can be on a semester or yearly basis

2Pre-HSK Program

Prospective Student:

Non-Chinese citizen in good health; between 18 and 60 years old who want to improve the Chinese proficiency in a short period of time, and prepare to take the HSK test in order to pursue studies in Chinese universities.

 

Term Length:

18 weeks for classes per semester

Fall semester: Early September - Middle January

Spring semester: Late February – Early July

Class Hour:

Monday--Friday morning: Comprehensive Chinese Training (listening, speaking, reading, writing)

Monday--Thursday afternoon: HSK special tutorial

 

Program Features:

·         Intensive Chinese language teaching courses with 28 lessons per week (45 minutes/lesson), and effective in rapidly improving the Chinese language proficiency.

·         Graded teaching: The program is divided into Grade 4 and Grade 5 in accordance with students’ choice for HSK examination grading.

·         Small class teaching, which starts at the minimum of 10 students. And the number of students per class ranges between 10 and 20.

·         Students who pass the HSK level 4 are eligible to apply for undergraduate program in the ECUST.

·         The program organizes the language social practice once for each semester, including traveling to or visiting cities or regions around Shanghai.

 

3Pre-university Program

Prospective Students:

Pre-college international students with basic Chinese language skills.

Term Begins:

Late February (spring semester); Early September (autumn semester), specific time is subject to the admission notice.

 

Class Hour:

8:30AM-12:00PM, Monday-Friday; 1:30PM-3:10PM, Monday & Thursday

1:30PM-4:05PM, Tuesday & Wednesday

18 weeks one semester, 30 class hours one week, 45min per class hour

4Summer and Winter Short-term Programs

Program Feature:

CIE arranges four-week short-term programs for individuals and groups twice per academic year, summer program begins on the mid of July, and the winter program begins in early January. You will be divided into different classes according to your Chinese language level in order to achieve the highest results.

These programs involve

l  General Chinese Courses on Reading, Listening and Speaking

l  Chinese culture experiences: Calligraphy, Kongfu, etc.

l  City Tours.

5Customized short-term programs for groups

CIE offers customized short-term programs for groups (over 20people) throughout the year. We will design lectures, activities and tours with flexible study periods and timetable based on your demands.

Program includes

l  Lectures on Chinese culture and history or other topics both in Chinese and English.

l  Visits to famous industry companies, manufacturers, museums, university labs and tourist locations, etc.

l  Elective courses such as paper cutting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese Kongfu, etc.

l  Research projects on Chinese culture or other fields.

l  Other activities upon request.
